Low Carbon City

A guide for a just climate action

"For aspiring public office candidates and decision-makers."

The climate crisis we currently face demands that we, as a society, act swiftly and decisively to address its effects and protect lives, recognizing that certain populations are highly vulnerable due to their age, gender identity, ethnic identity, or socioeconomic status. Moreover, the intersectionality of these factors leads to disproportionate impacts, especially affecting those who bear the least responsibility for the crisis we are facing. This does not imply ignoring common responsibilities, but it does require us to act in a way that makes necessary transitions just, moving towards a model that respects nature’s limits and prevents the widening of existing social and economic gaps.

At Low Carbon City, with the support of the Heinrich Böll Foundation Bogotá – Colombia office, we believe that collective climate action is the answer. This is why we want to introduce the **Guide to Just Climate Action for Public Office Candidates and Decision-Makers**, which is an invitation to elected officials to make the climate agenda, with a justice focus, a central and priority element of development plans, framed through human rights and gender perspectives.

We also invite citizens to take ownership of this tool and to embrace our role in climate governance as mobilizers, demanding that climate action becomes a priority in local agendas. We must participate in civic spaces, mobilize, and lead the implementation of solutions to the climate crisis.
