“Citizen Award: How to Improve Air Quality? MiMedellín.org”

CHALLENGE

Pollution is a pressing issue that affects us all, and every citizen has a role to play in addressing it. Together with MiMedellín, we launched a challenge aimed at finding collective, effective, and low-cost solutions that could be implemented in the short to medium term to improve air quality and increase citizen participation in solving this problem. We received over 200 citizen ideas and more than 660 people participated in the voting. The award for the best idea was presented by the forum organizers, along with the MiMedellín program from RutaN and the Secretary of the Environment, Oscar Hoyos, to Lorena Cardona, representative of Green Virus, an initiative that seeks to transform urban spaces through the collective construction of “green parks” or gardens made from recycled materials.

**GreenVirus (Winner):** “Increase the public green areas of the city through the collective construction of ‘green parks’ or gardens made from recycled materials, which will improve environmental conditions while also providing spaces for recreation, leisure, and community engagement for citizens.” — Lorena Cardona

“Promote environmental terraces in buildings, companies, and homes, where various types of planting can create environmental stability and food production.”

“EPM should import, distribute, and finance electric bicycles, so that people can replace their two-stroke motorcycles with zero-emission vehicles that use EPM’s renewable energy.” — Manuel Castro
